Tennessee’s Window Tint Laws

Tint Darkness (VLT%)

In Tennessee, Visible Light Transmission (VLT) determines how dark your tint can be:

  • Sedans and smaller vehicles

    • Front side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in

    • Rear side windows and rear windshield: 35% VLT or lighter

  • SUVs, trucks, and vans

    • Front side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in

    • Rear windows: No restriction — go as dark as you want

Tint Reflectivity

Tennessee also limits how reflective your tint can be to avoid excessive glare:

  • Front and rear side windows: Must be 20% reflective or less
